Sheriff's Department Promotes Five

Some of Chatham County's finest are moving up in rank. The sheriff's department honored five deputies today, promoting two to corporal, and one each to sergeant, lieutenant and captain.

Those five, along with one woman on support staff who was also promoted, have a combined 93 years worth of work for the sheriff's department.

"The sheriff's department basically raised me," said Angela Dorsey. "It helped me understand how to operate the criminal justice field and really have an appreciation for those who serve the community."

Also today, the sheriff's department bid a fond farewell to Lt. Ed Salmon, who's retiring after 27 years, and Dep. Robert Broadie, after 13 years.
