WTOC Anchors Raise Money for a Good Cause

Its been a mission of mercy. On Saturday, Mike Cihla and Dave Turley, along with news anchors Sonny Dixon, Jody Chapin, Pat Prokop and Dmitra Denmark, hit the Savannah Mall for a special fundraising event. The Morning show anchor and Meteorologist gave of their time, so folks would give money to St. Baldrick's. Their theme is the "Mighty Eleventh Hair Force", which was organized to help in the fight against cancer. If they raise 11-thousand dollars, then they will give up their hair. "It will be a money saving adventure for us because you won't have to worry about washing your hair, it saves time in the morning, getting to work earlier and being more productive at work," said Meteorologist, Dave Turley.

It's a labor of love for Turley and Mike Cihla. Every dollar they can get put in the bucket is one more step toward giving kids a second chance at life. Kate Vaughn heard the call for help, and put up a lemonade stand to raise money. "These are people who don't have as much as I do, I wanted to help them," said Vaughn.

The entire WTOC team spent the day meeting people, collecting cash and saying thanks. Pam Steimle of St. Baldrick's said when you give money, you are giving kids hope. "Every dollar raised means we're that much closer to a cure so these children won't have to lose their hair," explained Steimle.

Participant,William Smith, donated 50-dollars out of his own pocket, and wished he had more to give. "If I had 11-thousand to give to them, I'd do it, so I could take the first swipe myself," Smith laughed.

If you'd like to make a donation, you have less than a week. Dave and Mike have to raise 11-thousand dollars by Friday. If they meet their goal, then the hair comes off, live, right here on WTOC.

All the money goes to St. Baldrick's, so kids with cancer can stay in Savannah for treatment. The person who makes the largest donation gets to make the first swipe with the clippers.
