Victim on Garden City Home Invasion

There's been a home invasion in Garden City. A couple attacked a 76-year-old woman this afternoon. The victim has lived in the home for 41 years. She planned on selling and moving out this weekend, but 41 years without incident ended about 12:30pm today.

We sat down with Sadie Smith a few hours after her Chatham Villa Drive home was invaded. She was choked, nearly smothered, and tied up and put in a closet.  She says a white male and female, both in their late 20s or early 30s, forced their way into her house, pretending they were interested in buying it.

They demanded money, asked her for her keys, stole her car--a 1999 green Saturn--and then left her tied up.

"He went and tore a dress to pieces to tie me up, took a phone cord and tied me up," Smith told us. "But this old 76-year-old woman was strong enough to kick a darned desk under him with folding doors so I could get out."

The male suspect was still at large as of this evening. The woman was found, with the car, in a parking garage at Bryan and Abercorn Streets in Savannah.
