One Suspect Captured, Three Escape After Shots Fired

Three men who may be armed are on the loose tonight, and a man on the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's most wanted list is behind bars.

Police arrested 21-year-old William McDonald this morning for his involvement in an armed robbery in Carver Heights. They say he may also have key information in a recent murder.

On February 27, a car pulled up at the corner of Montgomery and 35th Streets. Someone inside the car began shooting at people on the sidewalk, hitting and killing Nathaniel Black. Investigators think McDonald knows what happened that night.

As far as the three other men still on the run, police have not released any names, but detectives say they do have some leads. Police say that two of men could be armed, and are urging people to be on the lookout.

It all started at 8:30am on Elliot Street. Two police officers were patrolling and they heard gunshots and saw four men running away from a home. Officers ran after the man holding a gun. They say that man was McDonald.

Police were looking for him in connection with several serious crimes. "He is wanted for armed robbery and also a person of interest in a recent shooting on Montgomery Street," said Lt. Philip Reilley.

After chasing McDonald for an hour and half through people's yards and across roofs, officers and K-9s caught him hiding in mud, underneath a home off Carol Street.

Now, police are looking for the other three men who were with McDonald. Lt. Reilley says the four men were robbing a home off Elliot Street.

Officers say it might be drug related but are still investigating.

"We couldn't chase everyone, but we have information on who they might be," said Lt. Reilley.

People who live in the area are concerned about the other three men who are still on the loose. "It's scary to know there is somebody out they still haven't caught and could have put everybody life in danger," said neighbor Tanaya Puryear.

Police say there were three victims inside the home off Elliot Street, but no one was not injured.

Police say the men did get away with a little money, but not much.
