We're just three months away from hurricane season, and a Low Country community is preparing for the worst. Hilton Head Island's Public Safety Commission just approved a request by the fire chief to establish a town disaster recovery commission.
Chief Tom Fieldstead is proposing a seven-member commission that would help the island and its people recover from a hurricane.
"The thought behind the commission is to involve the community, to be involved in the development and understanding and the implementation of a successful recovery plan," said Chief Fieldstead.
The proposal will be going to the full town council next month and it must go through two readings before it goes into effect.
