South Effingham High Student Named Regional STAR

Some of the Coastal Empire's brightest teens got together today for a big award at GSU's College of Information Technology. High school seniors from a 13 school districts in 12 counties gathered for the Region 8 STAR Student and STAR Teacher ceremony.

Students with the highest SAT scores at each high school compete for the county awards.

This year's regional winner is Adam Steiner of South Effingham and his teacher Christa Martin. Adam couldn't attend because he's joint enrolled at West Georgia College.

Organizers praised each nominee. "These are your future leaders," said coordinator Lisa Glisson. "They are the top-scoring students in 13 counties, the future representatives, future CEOs and presidents. The future is in their capable hands."

Adam is now one of 12 finalists for the state STAR award announced in late April.
