Early Revelers Hit River Street

The party's already starting, celebrating Saint Patrick's Day in Savannah downtown, with their shamrocks, beads and of course a lot of beer. Wednesday was really the first night people have started heading out, and while they weren't exactly the crowds everyone's expecting Friday, there's certainly was a party atmosphere out there last night.

"Mardis Gras didn't go off as large as they expected, so they're coming down here for the party, that's what it is," said Cliff Jackson with Magikal Taxi. "It's just going to be one massive party."

That's what a lot of people are counting on. Many partiers have heard the stories, and now they're just hoping to see for themselves.

Lisa Noe came from Madison, Wisconsin, to get a firsthand look. "I haven't seen it yet," she said. "This is my first time, so I don't know what to expect, but it's doing good. It's warm down here. I like it."

And even though the big crowds aren't clogging the cobblestones quite yet, people are making sure they're prepared with beverages and of course a lot of beads.

WTOC will have all the celebrations on Friday, starting with live coverage of the mass and parade beginning at 8am, and reports on all the downtown fun during THE News at 5 and 6.
