Job Training Program Starting in Savannah

It's a program aimed at giving troubled youngsters a second chance, while filling important jobs for Savannah. Members of Clark-Atlanta's Worker Training and Education Project came to Savannah City Hall today to explain their program and ask for the city's blessing.

The program teaches technical and hands-on training skills for environmental jobs such as hazardous materials and lead, asbestos and mold removal.

Twenty-five people from Savannah, many with troubled pasts, are about to graduate from the pilot class and are working to become productive members of the community.

"They are willing to put in extra hours, coming in on Saturday," said the program's Dr. Mildred McClain. "We're helping them get their GED, turn their lives around and make Savannah proud."

The program hopes to secure employment for all of its graduates. This is just the first of a five-year program.

If you'd like to hire one of these trained professionals or get involved in the next class, call call Dr. McClain at (912) 233-0907.
