Free dinner, all for protecting our country.

Saturday night, Jim Murphy, who was in the service himself, was touched by some people who took him and his buddies to dinner and made them feel special long ago.

Murphy says he decided to take service members to dinner as a way to repay that kindness.

Murphy and his wife treated eight soldiers and their families to dinner at the Longhorn Steakhouse in Savannah Saturday night and he hopes more people will do the same.

Murphy said, "Anybody who'd like to take some of our returning service people out to dinner, I think it'd be a great time and you'll feel really good when you pay the check.

Dinner guest, PFC Kevin Smithwick, said, "I would really like to thank Jim Murphy for this opportunity. It makes me proud that citizens do this stuff for us. We sacrifice a lot and I'm just glad when people show their appreciation for us.

The eight families that Murphy treated Saturday night are the first of forty soldiers and their families who will get free dinner.
