A Port Wentworth man was killed after he was hit by a truck while crossing the road in Savannah. The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday on Abercorn Street near Eisenhower Boulevard.

Police say, according to witnesses, 46 year old Tarun Patel had just been involved in a minor accident on Abercorn and Eisenhower Drive. He had just spoken to the driver of the car he hit, when he walked right into the path of an oncoming pickup truck. James Briglia, who was driving the truck, was heading south on Abercorn when Patel stepped off the median and in front of his truck.

Patel was rushed to Memorial Health University where doctors pronounced him dead.

Investigators say they found signs of alcohol in Patel's car. No charges have been filed against Briglia. Savannah Chatham Police had to close Abercorn Street in both directions for two hours after the accident. They're still investigating.
