75-Year-Old Victim of Sexual Assault

Police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted and tried to rape a 75-year-old woman. The woman was attacked in the office of the mobile home park she manages on Ogeechee Road Saturday morning.

Unfortunately, police do not know much about the attacker. They say he's a Hispanic man. He dropped his wallet during the attack, but police say it didn't provide them with any leads.

The Melody Acres mobile home park was the site of the heinous crime police say is simply sickening. They say the 75-year-old was attacked inside the office trailer around 7am Saturday.

"Any time there's a sexual assault, especially the sexual assault of an older person, it's very concerning for police," said Lt. Mike Wilkins, a spokesman for the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. "Especially in this case. There was violence."

Police say a Hispanic man came into the office trailer and asked the woman if he could rent a mobile home. "When he was told there was nothing to rent, the victim got up to escort him out and was subsequently assaulted," said Lt. Wilkins.

According to the police report, the man punched the woman and threw her to the ground. Then he took off his clothes. He sexually assaulted the woman and tried to rape her. Police say the victim fought back.

"She did fight back," said Lt. Wilkins. "During the assault, she produced a stun gun, tried to use it against him. He disarmed her and broke it."

Police say the victim did not know her attacker. Most of the people who live in her mobile home park don't speak English and it could be tough for investigators to get information about this crime.

The attacker also left behind his hat and some of his DNA. Latino Officers Outreach Program, or LOOP, officers may be called in to help.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 234.2020.
