Annual "Ultimate Drive" Raises Money for Breast Cancer Research

Nineteen brand-new BMWs rolled through Savannah today in the name of cancer research. Critz BMW on Abercorn Street welcomed the fleet of pink-and-silver cars, part of the 10th annual Ultimate Drive program for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

People could drive the BMWs, and for every mile driven, BMW donated $1 to the Komen Foundation, supporting breast cancer research, education screening and treatment programs.

"This is the tenth anniversary of the Ultimate Drive for a Cure, and we've been excited to do it every year," said Dale Critz. "And each year is builds, and we get more and more people, and raise more and more money for breast cancer."

Gertrude Skoglind, an 18-year cancer survivor, was also honored as the local hero this year. Skoglind was one of the first women in Savannah to undergo lumpectomy surgery.
