A suspected car thief is behind bars this morning after an overnight chase on Savannah's eastside. Police captured this man, 20-year-old Brandon McCaulla, after they say he stole a Chevrolet pickup truck on Nottingham Drive about 1:30am. Officers had to use pepper spray to subdue him after a short foot chase.

After the truck was stolen, police spotted it at a gas station on Skidaway Road. McCaulla sped away, leading officers on a chase east on 40th Street. But McCaulla apparently didn't know the street was a dead end and slammed into some trees before jumping out and running west.

Officers caught up with him on Herbred Street about three blocks from the truck. He was taken to the Chatham County jail, charged with fleeing from police and theft by taking.
