Sexual Assault Awareness Month - WTOC-TV: Savannah, Beaufort, SC, News, Weather & Sports

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

This month is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Savannah's Rape Crisis Center says it so important for rape victims come forward and report assaults. They say it's also important to work as a team with other agencies that deal with rape victims, like the police department, the district attorney's office and the sexual assault nurse examiner.

"It's better for the victim, because she knows she'll be taken care of in every regard, physically and emotionally and throughout the investigation," noted Mary McAlister with the Rape Crisis Center. "And it's better for the community, because we can hopefully get rapists off the street in a quicker fashion."

Tomorrow, the Rape Crisis Center officially announces its formation of a Sexual Assault Response Team in Savannah.
