A regional group took time out today to honor police officers killed in the line of duty. Music and candles marked a special luncheon in Pooler at the Comfort Inn. The National Organization of Black Law Enforcement executives is holding their regional training conference there this week.
Organizers say it's important to bring everyone together to learn about the job of police officer, and remember the dangers connected to it.
"When we put on a uniform and go to work we never know what that day will bring," said Col. McArther Holmes. "You know you have a challenge and a charge to protect and serve, and that could mean to the point of giving up your life."
Several fallen officers' families were also on hand for today's ceremony.
