Storm Sends Tree Into House

The tree split the house in two. The tree split the house in two.

A Savannah family has to find another place to stay after this weekend's storms destroyed their home. Strong winds knocked a giant oak tree into the Manning family's house in the Battery Point subdivision on Whitemarsh Island. The tree split the house in two.

"There was no warning," explained Richard Manning, "it was pure luck that everybody was all right."

Manning was home with his son on Saturday night, getting ready to watch the Masters in Augusta. He heard the storm warnings; however, he didn't think anything of it until he heard a tremendous crash.

"The next thing I see is the whole house is coming in," he said. "It felt like a plane hit the house or something. It's not like a slow event. It was just "BAM!"

Manning's son was in the next room. Neither of them were hurt. The family is staying with relatives until they can rebuild.
