Fort Pulaski Siege Reenacted

The sounds of thundering cannons echoed at Fort Pulaski over the weekend. Reenactors were observing the 144th anniversary of the siege and reduction of Fort Pulaski.

The two-day event featured hourly cannon firings, living history presentations, ranger talks and guided tours of the fort. And for the first time in history, visitors had the chance to see activities from the Union side during the siege.

Park superintendent Charlie Fenwick urged area residents "that this is nationally significant. It's right in their backyard. And we're here everyday, come out and see us."

The Fort Pulaski National Monument is on US Highway 80 East. It's open daily from 9am to 5pm.
