Public Input Taken on Community Planning

The Savannah City Council and the Chatham County Commission held a joint session today. They wanted to get your input on their comprehensive plan for the future of the community.

Today's meeting at the Coastal Georgia Center on Fahm Street allowed people to voice their opinions on things like growth and the acquisition of property by government and private industry.

The elected officials and the Metropolitan Planning Commission say today's session is a major step in the planning process.

"By and large, the testimony was very supportive of a grassroots effort that spans many, many years," said county manager Russ Abolt. "Once the plan is finally adopted, they move on specifically to zoning, which will have far more reaching effects within the community."

The MPC recommended approving the report. It now goes to the Department of Community Affairs and the Coastal Georgia Regional Development Center for their review.
