Police Respond to False Abduction Report

Officers swarmed the area around 54th and Crane Streets. Officers swarmed the area around 54th and Crane Streets.

There were some tense moments yesterday afternoon after someone reported that a child had been abducted. Dozens of police officers responded to the area of 54th and Crane Streets in Savannah and blocked off that area. It turns out the whole thing was a false alarm.

The call came in around 4pm that someone snatched a 6-year-old child off of a bicycle. Once police were on the scene and conducted several interviews, they were able to determine that it was indeed a false alarm.

"The call came in from someone in this community," said Sgt. Mike Wilson with the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. "We are still talking to that person and they were perhaps disoriented or confused with information they provided initially."

Police say they are still investigating. So far the caller has not been charged.
