Three Fire Departments Battle Hinesville Blaze

A popular gift shop went up in smoke yesterday afternoon when Flower's Gift Shop on Memorial Drive in Hinesville caught fire. Hinesville,  Walthourville and Fort Stewart firefighters battled the blaze, but it had a big head start on them. Flames were shooting out the roof, front door and back of the building.

Paintings, woodwork, furniture and flowers fed the fire.

There was so much fire, they had to change tactics.

"With the initial attack, the firefighters was unable to locate the fire, so we brought them back out and changed from a defensive to an offensive," said Chief Lamar Cook of the Hinesville Fire Department.

Nearly 75 firefighters battled the flames and put out hot spots. They stayed on the scene till nearly 9pm.

They think the fire started at the back of the building in a storage area, but they don't yet know how it started.
