Legends Golfers Visit Children's Hospital

Some of the golfers in town for the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf tournament took time away from the course to visit some special patients today.

Mike Reid, Dez Smyth and Scott Simpson were just some of the guys who made new friends at the Backus Children's Hospital. The golfers told a few jokes, signed some autographs and made children smile.

It's all part of Giving Back Day, where PGA Tour golfers and their wives take part in community activities with charity partners.

Everyone says it's a great way to see how they are helping. "There's a feel-good factor for us as players, that part of what we do helps the local community, to see it in real life," said Smyth, the defending champion. "We tell the other players and they're happy about it."

Since 2003, the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf tournament has raised close to $700,000 for 70 organizations in Savannah, including Backus Children's Hospital.

To see the golfers in action, make sure to watch An Evening on the Savannah Harbor on WTOC this Saturday evening at 7:30pm and Sunday at 6:45pm.
