Search Continues for Missing Soldier

They're far from home, but that is not stopping 23-year-old Robert Hornbeck's family from trying to find the missing soldier. WTOC spent some time with them Thursday afternoon as they were searching the streets of Savannah for a glimpse of hope.

Police preformed a complete sweep of the DeSoto Hilton yesterday, the last place Hornbeck was seen. They found no sign of the Third ID soldier, who's been missing since Sunday.

But even though the family doesn't have any leads, they aren't giving up.

"We've reduced ourselves to handing out flyers," said Eric Hornbeck, Robert's father. "We've conducted several searches."

That's all the Hornbeck family has been doing for the last several days, searching for Robert. Days after he went missing, the family is hoping that someone may have information about where Robert could be and give them any clues.

Exhausted, running on three hours of sleep, basically running on hope, the Hornbeck family is scanning the streets and handing out colored photos of Robert. They say even though they are tired they won't give up.

And if you haven't seen Robert, you will in the flyers posted anywhere that will allow.

Amanda Swartz, Robert's fiancee, is also helping the family search. She says, even though it's frustrating, she has to continue searching for the love of her life. "Mostly have periods where you cry, let it all out, cause you have to be strong to get anything done."

The Hornbecks are far from done. "We need to close this one way or another," said Eric. "We are going to push it."

The Hornbecks will be getting more help from Robert's fellow Third ID soldiers, who will be traveling from Fort Bragg today to help the family and police continue searching for clues.

There is a $10,000 reward. If you have any information, contact CrimeStoppers that number is 234.2020.
