Police Looking for Three Suspects in Afternoon Shooting

This afternoon, someone opened fire on a man driving down the street, hitting him several times. It happened on the corner of Florence and 51st Streets. Police say that 34-year-old Ronald Mack was minding his own business and running errands when several black males in an SUV pulled alongside him and started shooting at him.

Around 1:30pm, police say the man driving this van flagged down officers in the area of Barnard Street and Victory Drive. He told the officers someone shot him three times. Police say the man drove several blocks with gunshot wounds until he could find a safe area to pull over.

The car has several bullet holes. Officers are now on the lookout for a gold or copper-colored Jeep Cherokee.

"He says he doesn't know the individuals that opened fire on him," said Lt. Philip Reilly with the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department.

Then about a half an later, police followed a car matching that description to a home on 38th Street and Ogeechee Road. The police say that a bystander told them that a man ran into the home.

Police did search the home with the owner's permission and found nothing.

Mack was taken to Memorial Health, but does not appear to have life-threatening injuries.

Officers are still looking for three suspects. If you have any information, contact CrimeStoppers at 234.2020.
