Sunday afternoon a special ceremony was held to honor some ofGeorgia's oldest veterans.
The remembrance was for Savannah's Volunteer Guards who fought at Saylers Creek, West Virginia during the Civil War. Historians and descendant's of these veterans came to Laurel Grove Cemetery to pay their respects and to make sure these soldiers are not forgotten. Rick Phillips a member of the 8th Georgia re-enacting group said "everyone needs to recognize these soldiers fought for what they believed in. They're all heroes, both people who fought for the North and the South. We're here to honor our heroes and ancestors."
A wreath was placed in honor of the guardsman. The re-enactors marched into the ceremony and played taps in remembrance of all those who lost their lives.
