A group of Savannah cemeteries has been at the center of controversy lately for removing mementos placed by loved ones from gravesites.
In a written statement, cemetery officials say new ownership of the cemeteries pushed for enforcing the guidelines to remove items from gravesites. They have also warned WTOC to stay off the property or face trespassing charges.
The Georgia Secretary of State's office is collecting complaints (contact the securities division at 404.656.3920), and giving people the name and number of the new owners of the Savannah cemetery group based out of Atlanta:
Memorial Properties, 888-662-9600.
They're hoping ownership will change the rules if enough customers complain. Meanwhile, their investigation continues.
