Veteran's Lost Medals Replaced

The family of a World War II veteran finally got what they've been looking for for the past 20 years. Yesterday, US Rep. John Barrow (D-GA Dist. 12) presented the family with the veteran's lost military medals and honors at American Legion Post 184 in Thunderbolt.

They weren't the originals, but replacements.

The whole thing started when Carol Fonvielle, daughter of Monroe Anderson Clay, was looking for her father's medals to give to her son. Clay had passed away and never told his daughter where he put them.

"This is just so wonderful," she said. "In one sense, it's bittersweet, because I just wish I had him here, and the other is it's wonderful to recover this part of his life. It meant so much to him and we will have it now for forever."

Fonvielle was given a total of five medals, a service star and two bars. One of the honors did include the Bronze Star.
