Jet Fighter Group Trains in Savannah

Some of the country's top fighter pilots are training right here in Savannah. More than 400 people from Langley Air Force Base's 71st Fighter Squadron and the First Fighter Wing were sharpening their skills at the Georgia Air National Guard's Combat Readiness Training Center.

Yesterday morning, they launched 14 F-15C fighter jets at once, showing them off to the public.

The jets provide air support during combat for our troops and ships, but they also protect us right here at home.

"What we do in the air superiority role is we fly combat air patrols over our major cities," explained Lt. Col. Robert Garland, commander of the 71st Fighter Squadron, the "Ironmen." "And we do that 24/7 and our job is to make sure that no hostile act or intent is committed against any of our cities across America."

The 71st Fighter Squadron and the First Fighter Wing will train at the Combat Readiness Training Center through the end of July.
