Bengals Linebacker Suspended!

ESPN DOT COM IS REPORTING THAT CINCINNATI BENGALS MIDDLE LINEBACKER... ODELL THURMAN... WILL BE SUSPENDED BY THE N-F-L FOR THE FIRST FOUR GAMES OF THE SEASON FOR VIOLATING THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE POLICY.  THAT MAY BE WHY THE BENGALS DRAFTED TROUBLED LINEBACKER AHMAD BROOKS OF VIRGINIA TODAY IN THE N-F-L's SUPPLEMENTAL DRAFT.

THURMAN LED THE BENGALS WITH 148 TACKLES LAST SEASON WITH 5 INTERCEPTIONS AND 4 FORCED FUMBLES.  THE FORMER GEORGIA BULLDOG HAD 1-1/2 SACKS... 5 INTERCEPTIONS... AND 9 PASSES DEFENSED.  HE STARTED 15 GAMES OF 16 GAMES IN HIS ROOKIE SEASON... BUT WAS HELD OUT OF THE STARTING LINEUP FOR THE FINALE FOR VIOLATING TEAM RULES.  MARK RICHT ALSO HAD TO DISCIPLINE THURMAN TWICE WHILE HE WAS AT GEORGIA.

WEDNESDAY... I TALKED WITH BENGALS COACH MARVIN LEWIS ABOUT HIS BUDDING DEFENSIVE STAR, "He's got a lot of talent and ability and he just has to understand about the NFL."
