After four months overseas, members of the 117th Air Control Squadron are back with their families. On Saturday at Hunter Army Airfield, the unit was given several awards for their service in Operation Iraqi Freedom. More than 180 proud men and women from the 117th served their country during their latest deployment.

The 117th Air Control Squadron was responsible for maintaining control of the air patterns in Iraq. They say it was hard work, but worth it.

"(We were) controlling basically all the tactical aircraft in the theater, huge numbers of airplanes. The good thing about it was everyone came home safe," explained Master Sergeant Andrew Pierce.

The Georgia Air National Guard handed out eight special awards today; however, the greatest thing they received, at least from their families' point of view, was their official release from active duty, signaling the end of their deployment.
