It's the 216th birthday of the United States Coast Guard and they are celebrating all week. You can head to Savannah's River Street to join the party with tours of the Coast Guard cutter Dependable, and rescue demonstrations on the river.

They're marking history and tradition.

"The significance of this weekend and August the 4th specifically is the Coast Guard 216th birthday," said Lt. Dustin Williams. "In 1790, August the 4th, Alexander Hamilton in act of Congress designated the Coast Guard Revenue Service, and we worked through Revenue Cutter Services to do tariffs and enact those things along the Coast Guard waters."

Tonight things get started at 7pm, with fireworks on the river at about 9:30pm. Then again tomorrow morning at 10am, they'll open up displays and tours and other Coast Guard and Navy League events on the river.
