Deadline Nears for Annual Technology Awards

Know anyone in the high-tech business? Now's their chance to shine. The fourth annual Coastal Business, Education and Technology Alliance's annual awards show is coming up October 26, and you've only got a few days to apply for your chance in the limelight.

We caught up with Commerce V3, a local technology company which won a Coastal BETA Award last year.

The company's Felix Figuereo spends a lot of time on the phone with clients, helping them understand the technology behind their online businesses.

"It's dual learning, because I also learn through the process of what the quote unquote geeks do and how they do it, and I'm able to communicate it to the customers," he said. "And also kind of in layman's terms explain to the customer what it is that the software does."

That software is all about helping customers sell stuff online. "We do ecommerce software for catalog companies," explained Commerce V3 vice president Nathan Focht. "So we help them get their print catalogs online and on the web so that you can purchase and ship your Christmas gifts."

The software gained special recognition at last year's annual Coastal BETA awards banquet. It's a big honor for what was once a little company.

While an award like this represents recognition from your peers in the local technology community, it can also mean scholarship money for local students that might end up working for Commerce V3 one day. The money generated by the annual gala goes to scholarships for high-tech students at local universities.

"Investing in the kids, investing in technology...it's like planting seeds," noted Figuereo. "You're going to have good food at the end of the harvest, at the end of the season. I think that's going to be a positive swing for the area."

And maybe a good thing for a growing company.

If you know a business, education or even government group that might be eligible for an award this year, you can learn how to make a nomination or apply online at:

The deadline to apply is August 25.
