Beaufort Marines and Sailors Home from Iraq

More Beaufort Marines and sailors are back home with their families and friends after completing a seven-month deployment to Iraq.

More than 150 Marines and sailors with Marine All-Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 533 and Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31 received a warm welcome with lots of hugs and kisses.

A downpour hit just as the reunion got underway, but it was obvious not even the rain could put a damper on this long-awaited homecoming.

"It doesn't matter right now," said Marine Yolanda Ayala. "Being in the desert for seven months, the rain is great."

After reuniting with her son, Marine mother Sherri Powell told us, "I'm speechless. I'm just so glad to have him back. Rain, sleet, snow, I don't care, I'm glad he's back."

While in Iraq, the Hawks provided close air support and aerial reconnaissance for ground forces. The group of Marines with MAG-31 provided maintenance, supply, and ordnance support to the Hawks.
