COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier says today that four South Carolina players either hurt or having academic issues are likely to redshirt this season.
Freshman defensive lineman Kenrick Ellis will sit out the year because of academic issues. Freshman fullback Clark Gaston cracked his hand and has a bad shoulder.
Freshman offensive lineman Terrence Campbell is having surgery on his knee. Spurrier says both be redshirted.
Senior safety Brandon Isaac, who already had to sit out the first three games because of an error in how many credits he transferred from junior college, also is likely to redshirt and have surgery on his shoulder.
The Gamecocks open their second season under Spurrier on Thursday at Mississippi State.
