Guardsmen from Around Region in Savannah for Hurricane Training

Military and civilian medical responders in Savannah are being put to the test this week during "Hurricane Savannah."

National Guardsmen from eight different states are being trained on how to handle a category 3 hurricane. Saturday, the Guardsmen were deployed to Savannah. Since then, they have set up a mobile hospital and have already been put in lifelike scenarios.

Monday afternoon, the scenario the Guardsmen tackled was a simulated helicopter crash. In the simulation, the crew was out trying to rescue displaced victims of the hurricane when their helicopter went down. The doctors and nurses at the hospital had to act fast when the injured came in.

Throughout the week the Guardsmen will be placed in a number of different situations, ranging from plane crashes to injured children to train derailment and more.

We will continue to have more on their training on THE News.
