Effingham Co. Suspect May Be in VA

The man accused of robbing and shooting a clerk at an Effingham County convenience store is now a suspect in the disappearance of a missing University of Virginia student.

On Monday, September 25th, Effingham County Sheriff's deputies think William Ashby shot 58 year old Waynetta Toler in the head at Mighty Mike's convenience store in Eden. Toler is still recovering in the hospital. Now, Virginia authorities believe Ashby may be connected to the disappearance of a South Carolina young woman who's attending the University of Virginia.

Virginia police now believe Ashby has the South Carolina woman's car. They're still searching for him. The car is a 1996 beige four door Toyota Corolla. It has South Carolina plates: 231DPM.

They found a car that belonged to Toler, the woman shot in Effingham County, abandoned on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Afton, Virginia, outside of Charlottesville.

If you have any information that can help police, call your local police department or call CrimeStoppers at (912) 234-2020.
