Third Infantry Battalion Deploys

The bloodshed in Iraq is increasing during Ramadan despite increased security measures. Officials say October will likely be the deadliest month for US forces in nearly two years. This is all happening at a time when more than 500 members of the Third Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart are getting ready to go back to Iraq.

Around two dozen soldiers are heading to Iraq this week and will prepare for the rest of the 92nd Engineer Battalion to join them next week. Some soldiers are returning for their third and fourth times. At a farewell ceremony held Thursday night, most sounded ready to go.

"I'm just excited, ready to do my thing over there. It's my first deployment. I've been told what to expect but I don't know firsthand," said Spc. Tracy Seaver of the 92nd Engineer Battalion.

The engineers will help with building and repair projects as well as their usual soldier duties like patrols.
