The race for Savannah-Chatham school board president is one race that's drawing a lot of attention in Chatham County. Wednesday night all the candidates got the chance to tell everyone where they stand and why people should vote for them.

Each got the chance to share his or her vision if he or she were elected BOE president.

"It's important to continue what we have done," said incumbent Hugh Golson.

"I have a plan to bring this community into the 21st century," said candidate Jackie Sommers.

Former Savannah mayor and board president candidate Floyd Adams said, "This community has shifted to a global economy and we have to prepare our children for the workforce."

"It's always about the students first and their learning," said candidate Joe Buck.

And candidate Sadie Brown said, "I bring my leadership as educator, businesswoman and community worker."

President of the Chatham Association of Educators Mary Snowden said tonight's forum was a must. "I think we need to carefully look at each candidate so we can decide what's best for our public school system."

Celeste Klaas said she went to tonight's forum because she wasn't familiar with the candidates and wanted to hear what they had to say in person.

"I would like to see someone who could lead the whole county into keeping kids in school, increasing graduation rates, and making our high schools a more desirable place to be," said Klaas.

The candidates also got the chance to answer some questions from our viewers about different topics from heavy book bags to the bus system.

Candidate had about a minute each to give their answers, just enough time for people in the community to see which candidate is a good choice for the Savannah-Chatham school district.
