Savannah Firefighters Shave Heads for Sick Colleague

What do you do when someone you know is going through tough times? If you are the Savannah Fire Department, you lift their spirits with a show of support.

Monday, firefighters shaved their heads in honor of Roy Howard, a fellow firefighter battling cancer who began his chemotherapy treatments yesterday.

"He thinks it's a wonderful thing," said the fire department's Leonard Carter. "We spoke to him about it and he's up for it and it really makes him feel good to know he has the support of the people in his department."

Almost every Savannah firefighter shaved his head yesterday, with some planning on shaving their heads next month to continue the show of support.
