As the Third Infantry prepares to return to Iraq, the division said thank you and goodbye Tuesday to more than a dozen career soldiers. At the monthly retirement ceremony, relatives and fellow soldiers recognized 13 retiring soldiers with 20 or more years in the military.
Division commander Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch calls these ceremonies among the most important things he does as a leader.
"These soldiers and their families gave all over the past 20, 25, 30 years for our national security," said the general. "They're the ones that insured that we have the freedom we have."
The ceremony also recognized one civilian employee, Barbara Webb, for her 35 years of service.
