BOONE, N.C. - D-J Thompson posted 27 points to lead four players in double-digit scoring as Appalachian State held off Georgia Southern in an 87-to-84 win today.
Thompson hit 12 of 14 from the free-throw line and had four assists and five rebounds for the Mountaineers (7-3, 3-0, Southern Conference).
Demetrius Scott had 20 points and Jeremy Clayton and Nathan Cranford scored 13 apiece. Dwayne Foreman scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures for Georgia Southern (6-4, 0-1).
Foreman also had seven assists. Georgia Southern rallied from a 14-point deficit and came within one point at 85-to-84 when Foreman hit a three-pointer with 23 seconds left in the game.
But the Eagles were unable to score again for the final 87-to-84.
