COLUMBIA, S.C. - U-S-C officials today say forward Chad Gray has been admitted to the University of South Carolina.
He is expected to suit up to play against Princeton this week. The six-foot-seven forward from Kingstree (South Carolina) was expected to enroll this fall, but his admission was denied by the university because of concerns over Gray's former prep school.
Florida Preparatory Academy had been on a list of those being looked by the N-C-double-A. Gamecock coach Dave Odom says Gray never wavered in his desire to play for South Carolina and that Gray's acceptance at the university rewards him for his commitment.
Gray is expected to bolster a front line for South Carolina, which has attempted to find stability without Renaldo Balkman, who opted for the N-B-A draft after his junior season.
