COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina running back Cory Boyd says this season's Gamecocks are giving maximum effort as they get ready for Houston at the Liberty Bowl.
In coach Steve Spurrier's debut season last fall, South Carolina stunned many in the Southeastern Conference with victories over Tennessee and Florida. But the Gamecocks fell with an equally surprising thud, losing to Clemson and then Missouri in the Independence Bowl.
Boyd wasn't part of South Carolina's losing effort at last year's bowl game. He says this year everyone's focused.
And he thinks the Gamecocks could be ranked with a win in the Liberty Bowl.
The Gamecocks have a chance to finish with three straight victories - something South Carolina hasn't done since 1973.
