It's not uncommon on any given morning to hear the sounds of the children's song "I'm a Little Teapot" floating from the tennis courts at Lake Mayer. Or see women buzzing around like airplanes through an obstacle course of babies in strollers.
Welcome to the moms of Stroller Fitness, where parents, children, and all their equipment are welcome. The class is actually structured around the baby's stroller. "We jog behind our stroller, and use it as stability," said Yvette Clifton.
Yvette is the instructor for the Stroller Fit class at Lake Mayer. She helps the moms get a good aerobic workout, while toning and strengthening their muscles. The babies are included in the class. From making a choochoo train while running, to singing while stretching, the Stroller Fit program is an interactive class for moms and babies.
The moms say they like the Stroller Fitness classes not only for the exercise, but the camaraderie they feel outside the class.
"We're a great support for each other," said Yvette. "There's no topic off limits, we discuss everything."
Jenny Boone is not only a new mom, but is also new to the Savannah area. The classes are perfect fit for her and her 16-month-old son, Matthew. "I like the camaraderie that we've gotten with the new friendships," she said. "I like being able to have my child with me, and I like being able to get fit too."
All the moms say they can already see a difference in their bodies from their Stroller Fit workouts. "I have a little bit more energy, and I've noticed a little weight change, and a little more muscle," Jenny told us.
The group has even set up a play group for children outside of class.
