South Carolina signs three junior college players

COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina signed three junior college players, including Sam Pope, a defensive back from Beaufort.

Also joining the Gamecocks are receiver Larry Freeman and defensive tackle Jonathan Williams. Pope is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound defensive back. he spent the past two seasons at Southwest Mississippi Community College.

This past fall, he returned two of his three interceptions for touchdowns. Pope was a member of the A-P's All-State team in 2004 when as a Beaufort senior, he had ten interceptions and 71 tackles. Freeman is 6-foot-2, 212 pounds.

He played at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Mississippi. Besides catching the ball, Freeman played quarterback for four games at Pearl River this past season.

Williams is 6-foot-4, 275 pounds. He was a two-year starter at Mississippi Delta Community College.
