ATHENS, Ga. - Georgia coach Mark Richt says redshirt freshman center Ian Smith will be suspended for the Chick-fil-A Bowl and the first five games of next season after his second alcohol-related arrest.
The 20-year-old Smith was arrested for underage possession of alcohol by university police early the morning of November 29th and released seven hours later on a 500-dollar bond. Richt said at the time that Smith was being suspended indefinitely.
Smith was suspended the first two games of this season after an arrest in February for public intoxication and giving false information. In that incident, police broke down a bathroom door in a local restaurant and found him passed out.
Georgia will play Virginia Tech in the December 30th Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta.
