San Diego, Calif. --- Tasha Humphrey poured in a season-high 27 points to lead No. 11 Georgia (12-2) to an 82-69 victory over a surprisingly challenging effort from Brown (2-10) in the consolation game of the Surf 'N Slam Classic at San Diego State on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears led by four points as late as 12:53 in the game before the Lady Bulldogs outscored Brown 32-7 over the next 11:05 to seal the win.
Humphrey connected on 12-of-15 shots from the field, including 12-of-13 from inside the three-point arc. Cori Chambers added 20 points while hitting 6-of-11 three pointers, while Janese Hardrick added 16 and six assists. Ashley Houts equaled her career high with eight assists and also collected five steals.
With Brown up 51-47, Hardrick scored five straight points to give the Lady Dogs their first lead of the second half. Christina Johnson answered to push the Bears back in front, but a steal and layup by Houts put Georgia up for good at 54-53 with 10:13 left.
Georgia opened the game quickly, scoring seven points just over a minute into the game before Brown even attempt a shot. From there, the Bears went on an 18-4 run over the next 6:17 to build an 18-11 lead with 12:27 left in the half.
The teams eventually entered the half knotted at 40-40.
Brown entered the game shooting just 36.8 percent from the floor and 60.0 percent from the line but connected on 10 of its 14 shots -- 71.4 percent -- and finished the first half shooting 57.1 percent and hit all 13 of its free throws.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday when they host Florida in their SEC opener at Stegeman Coliseum at 7:00 p.m.m.
