People piled into Old Fort Jackson for a lesson in history.

They got to witness the firing of a Civil War cannon over the Savannah River. Soldiers prepared the cannon as visitors watched the process. As the smoke filled the air, the commander of the 22nd Georgia Heavy Artillery, Phillip Coleman, said he's reminded of his former days.

"Reminds me of the time when I was learning back in the early 90s," said Coleman.

The Coastal Heritage Society and Old Fort Jackson staff members put on today's event.
