STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) - Donte Gennie scored a career-high 30 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from 3-point range, as Georgia Southern pulled away in the second half for an 81-62 victory over The Citadel Monday night in Statesboro.
Gennie was 11-of-13 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. He scored 17 after the intermission for the Eagles (12-15, 5-11 Southern Conference), who led throughout but just by 32-to-27 at halftime. Gennie and Dwayne Foreman opened the second half with back-to-back 3-pointers and Jimmy Tobias added another under a minute later.
The five-point halftime lead ballooned to 20 in eight minutes. Georgia Southern also got 14 points from Louis Graham and 12 from Foreman, who added eight assists.
Kevin Hammack led The Citadel (7-20, 4-12 SoCon) with 18 points. Donny McLendon scored 16 and Bryan Streeter added 12.
Meanwhile, UT-Chattanooga blitzed the Lady Eagles 65-52. The Lady Eagles hit just 28.4 percent of their shots from the floor on the night. Shawnda Atwood led them with just 11 points. GSU falls to 11-17 for the season and 6-11 in the Southern Conference.
