Coast Guard Honors Heroes of Rescue Mission

A local helicopter crew is recognized for their heroic efforts.

Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Coast Guard honored Lt. Patrick Lineberry and Petty Officer 2nd Class David Fanelli with the Coast Guard commendation medal.

Last Monday we showed you what they did to earn that medal.

Responding to a call from a fishing boat off Myrtle Beach adrift in rough seas, they flew out to the rescue. A diver jumped in the water and brought everyone on board to safety.

It was a dangerous mission, and both men say their families understand and appreciate the job they do.

"I think it's important for my family, wife and kids to know when I'm gone, sometimes you do actually have something good to do for your country," Lt. Lineberry said. "You go out and help people. I think that is the most important part."

Also honored, Air Station Savannah's Enlisted Person of the Year, Christopher Stewart.
