Annual Wreath Laying Honors Past Grand Marshal

No doubt it's the Irish season, and the traditions continue. The Saint Vincent's Chorale helped remember Irish heritage with a special ceremony Monday. This year's grand marshal, John Burke, placed a wreath at the grave of the grand marshal of two decades ago, Donald Laird.

Coach Harry Deal started the tradition a few years back as a way to remember and honor the man who helped build Savannah's Saint Patrick's Day into a premier event known around the world.

Laird was adjutant for five parades, mostly in the early '60s. He was general chairman in 1979.

We're continuing our Saint Patrick's Day coverage right up through the parade, with everything you need to know about the events large and small and the traditions behind the celebrations.
